The Best Sort Of Flat Iron For Smooth, Shiny Hair

by Karen Lynch

Smooth, shiny and straight hair is the hope of a lot of curly or wavy haired girls. If you are a curly haired girl you have no doubt tried many diverse ways to get the straight hair that is so fashionable these days. There is an old maxim that the curly haired girls want it straight and the straight haired girls want it curly but in fact the greatest of both worlds is the alternative to have it either straight or curly depending upon your mood.

Straight iron technology has improved significantly in the past few years. It may be that just the older women remember the days of using a clothes iron on their hair, or utilizing enormous hot rollers to try to smooth down their hair, but there was a point in time when these were the only ways. Those days are now over because now there are many advanced flat irons out there.

Flat irons come in all price ranges from the very cheap that can be discovered at your neighboring department store to very high-priced top of the line models. But, with flat irons you may do well to pay more because if you want to get lustrous, shiny hair you need to employ the finest technology. Low-priced irons can in fact harm your hair and cause it to appear frizzy and dry.

There are three essential types of flat irons. There is the traditional flat iron, which has plates made of steel or aluminum and then there are flat irons with ceramic coated or tourmaline coated plates. The traditional flat irons are frequently the more inexpensive ones.

Ceramic and tourmaline flat irons are significantly better-quality to the conventional flat irons. A traditional flat iron will often damage your hair and make it look dried up and frizzed. You can get the sleek look that you want from a ceramic or tourmaline flat iron because it offers a negative ionic charge.

A negative ionic charge is notable because your hair naturally has a positive ionic charge. Too much of a positive ionic charge will cause your hair to look dull and unhealthy. When you use a good flat iron, the negative ionic charge will counteract the positive ionic charge, thus sealing the hair cuticle and making it appear shinier and silkier and even making it healthier.

There are also hybrid flat irons that use both ceramic and tourmaline technology. Of course, these will generally cost more money on the other hand, these are the top of the line flat irons and with any luck they will last for a long time.

When you decide on a ceramic or tourmaline flat iron you end up spending more cash than you would if you chose the cheaper flat iron from your neighborhood department store, however, you may discover that it is worth the further charge when you see that you can have the lustrous, shiny and healthy hair that is so in vogue.
